Louisiana State Paralegal Association

     Welcome

The Louisiana State Paralegal Association was formed in 1986 as the result of a group of paralegals/legal assistants from Baton Rouge, Monroe and Lake Charles meeting at a celebration for graduates of the LSU Paralegal Studies Program in Baton Rouge. Soon after this, regional committees began working to locate paralegals/legal assistants in the state and to identify common goals and objectives in our profession. The main objectives were found to relate to educational and professional advancement. LSPA has worked with these goals in mind throughout its existence. Inasmuch as our profession was growing on a statewide level, there was a great need to organize people in our field. The first annual meeting was conducted on September 20, 1986, with 52 charter members from 12 cities in attendance. Since that time, membership has continued to grow and in 1992, LSPA became an affiliate of the National Association of Legal Assistants, NALA.
