Mission Statement:

The Louisiana State Paralegal Association, Inc., as the leader of the paralegal profession in Louisiana, is dedicated to the advancement and betterment of the paralegal profession throughout the State of Louisiana and in general.  LSPA strives to increase the recognition of the paralegal field by promoting the benefits of effective and increased utilization of paralegals.  Working diligently to maintain the integrity of the profession, LSPA promotes high ethical standards for its membership and offers a voluntary certification examination to identify Louisiana paralegals who have demonstrated a high degree of competency in the profession.  LSPA also promotes continuing legal education for its members.  Further, LSPA is dedicated to providing a network of professional support to paralegals in their careers.

 Legislation Critical to Our Profession

HB 972 is being heard in the House Civil Law and Procedure Committee at the State Capitol.  We expect passage in committee very soon, and then it will go to the House floor.

This bill regarding probate law and brokerage firms is sponsored by State Rep. Terry Brown.  If passed, it could potentially cut through a lot of the red tape that probate paralegals encounter when requesting Decedents’ records from brokerage firms during succession proceedings.

Please review the bill’s text and don't hesitate to contact your State Rep. to let him/her know where you stand on this bill.

The Louisiana State Paralegal Association (LSPA) is currently seeking members to assist in a pilot Mentorship Program.  The goal of this new program is to provide members with career development opportunities; assistance in improving and effectively managing skills in the workplace; and advancing the paralegal profession through networking.   LSPA members are interested in being a part of this groundbreaking program,  please complete the application on the MEMBERSHIP page and email it to the LaStateParalegalAssn@yahoo.com

New members are eligible and encouraged to work with us on this program.
